Policies and Procedures
It is my intention to provide my clients with a professional and therapeutic massage. The following policies and procedures serve as a guide for first-time and regular massage clients.
ARRIVAL TO YOUR MASSAGE:
New Clients: Please arrive for your appointment 15 minutes prior to your scheduled massage. This allows you the time to fill out the appropriate client forms. Established clients should arrive 5 minutes before their scheduled time to fill out a return form. All massages have a specific time schedule and early arrival allows for a relaxed and unhurried experience. If late arrival is inevitable, your service may be shortened in order to keep on schedule. The original fee will be charged.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. This gives me time to fill the slot. If a client fails to cancel within 24 hours they will be charged a cancellation fee of $40. No shows, appointments cancelled upon arrival, and appointments cancelled within less than an hour of the scheduled appointment time will be charged in full. Additionally, I do understand that unanticipated events/emergencies occur in everyone’s life and fees will be waived on a case-by-case basis. Since I work by appointment, I do not receive compensation for appointments that are missed. I ask that you call when you cannot keep your appointment.
LATE ARRIVAL POLICY:
Please call me at (612) 587-2334 if you are running late. In order to remain on schedule for all clients, I may shorten your service time if you are late for your appointment. In special cases, when my schedule allows, I may be able to accommodate a full appointment. This will be at my discretion and only with proper, advanced notification of your late arrival. The original fee will be charged.
INFORMED CONSENT:
Prior to each massage session, the massage plan will be discussed with you. Prior to your first visit with me, you will receive a copy of the massage therapy policies and will be asked to sign the consent stating that you have read the information, understand it, and agree to comply with the professional massage therapy policies and procedures. Clients that have not been seen for at least a year will also be asked to fill out this form.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
I am a Licensed Professional in Minnesota and am held to the highest standards by American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). I do not prescribe, diagnose or treat for medical conditions. I may refer you to a medical doctor or other health practitioner for diagnosis. Massage therapy is not a substitute for medical attention, and it is essential that all health information provided be true and correct.
PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES:
I am happy to adjust pressure, temperature, musical volume, or work longer on an area or move on if you request it. The client may choose to: leave on as much clothing as needed for comfort, refuse any massage methods or stop massage at any time. The client will always be modestly draped. Only the area being massaged will be undraped.
Sexual misconduct is forbidden and will not be tolerated. Client understands that any illicit or sexually aggressive remarks, advances or gestures will result in the immediate termination of the session and client will be liable for full payment of the scheduled appointment. Client will be reported to the proper authorities if the therapist chooses under the guidelines of the massage therapy policies and procedures. The client will not be rescheduled if this occurs.
The breast and genital area will not be massaged under any circumstances. Permission will be asked before working close to these areas; otherwise, a professional distance will be maintained. Also, low back, hip & gluteal area will be massaged only with permission and can be worked through the draping if requested.
TREATING MINORS:
I do not massage anyone under the age of 18. I would like to request that children not receiving services are not left unattended during your service.
CONFIDENTIALITY AND CONVERSATION:
I treat all client visits and conditions as confidential. As such, I will not discuss your visit with anybody without your permission. You may choose to talk or not talk during the massage. Conversation will be guided by the client. All client records are kept in a secure place and only those who need to see a client’s file for legitimate business or professional purposes have access to them. Your records will not be released to third parties, including health care providers and insurance companies without your written consent. Records may be surrendered if required by law.
EXISTING AND NEW MEDICAL CONDITIONS:
It is the responsibility of the client to keep me informed of any medical treatment currently being taken, and to provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc., that the massage may be continued. The client must also keep the massage therapist informed of any changes in health conditions. For clients undergoing chemo and radiation therapies – Please note that we require a doctor’s note that states the doctor is aware of, and agrees to massage.
SICKNESS POLICY:
Kassandra Plambeck Massage Therapy recognizes that both massage therapists and clients are vulnerable to infections and given that we ask clients to cancel appointments when they are feeling unwell, we will do the same for you.
